  1. PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION/CONSULTATION

We carefully examine your symptoms and problems within the context of your current life stressors to understand the biopsychosocial factors contributing to your distress, establish an accurate diagnosis, and, most importantly, develop an individualized treatment plan. Our goal is to obtain remission of all symptoms, i.e. to help you achieve the joy, happiness, contentment and success that you desire!

  1. MEDICATION MANAGEMENT/PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY

Psychiatric symptoms are often the result, in part, of difficulties the brain has producing appropriate levels of neurotransmitters, the chemicals the nerve cells use to communicate with each other. These include serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, among others. Medication helps the brain more effectively and efficiently use the neurotransmitters that you are already making. Contrary to much misperception, the vast majority of these medications are not addictive, do not make you high, are not sold on the street, and do not change your personality. I am recognized as a national expert in medication management and psychopharmacology. Please see my CV and list of Selected Lectures I have given to further acquaint you with my experience and expertise. Our goal is to find the medication that will allow you to have the best response. We select the medication together, focusing upon achieving remission of all symptoms, with your preference a priority.

  1. COGNITIVE DYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

When an event occurs, we have specific thoughts in reaction to this event, which give rise to specific feelings and specific responses. Individuals suffering from anxiety, depression and other psychological problems have more automatic negative thoughts than is usual for them or that is healthy for them. The goal of cognitive dynamic psychotherapy is to help you learn to identify, challenge and correct these automatic, negative, distorted, and dysfunctional thoughts and to learn to replace them with realistic restatements, leading to accurate thinking and remission of symptoms. I was fortunate to be one of the first psychotherapists in San Diego trained in cognitive therapy, the only form of therapy that has been scientifically clinically proven to be effective. I am recognized as an expert in the field. Once we identify, challenge, and correct these thoughts, we then work to understand how they develop so that you may place them within the context of your life. The goal is to help you attain the joy, happiness, contentment and success that you desire.

  1. SECOND OPINION

You must be confident that you have been diagnosed accurately and are receiving the best treatment possible? As a nationally recognized expert in the biopsychosocial etiology of psychiatric disease and in the psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatment of psychiatric disease, I am regularly asked to provide a second opinion by physicians, psychotherapists and patients. I invite you to see me for a second opinion. Please remember the goal of treatment is complete remission of symptoms, not just partial symptom relief, as often happens in treatment. You should not settle for only a partial treatment response!
